Artist Statement

As children, our job is to have fun, learn, and grow. The world is full of excitement and bright colors, allowing for your imagination to run wild and free. The world just feels light, full of limitless joy and adventures. Even our fears are imaginative, like finding monsters hiding under the bed and imaginary creatures lurking in the closet. As we grow older, the colors of our youth fade, our imaginations dull, and our monsters disappear. Our fears become more practical such as finding a job, not fitting in, being unsuccessful, losing the people we love, and being alone. We tend to get so tangled up in our responsibilities and worries that it can sometimes feel like there is not enough time in the day to get everything accomplished. Life gets very serious and sometimes very heavy. Yet, we crave that sense of wonder and playfulness we knew as a child. Through the use of vivid colors, humor, storytelling, and whimsy, my practice aims to bring back that fanciful outlook on life that we experienced as children. My art is a reminder to take a step back and admire the colors. My monsters and creatures are all one of a kind, intended to renew this childlike whimsy and awaken your childhood monsters.
